What to do before the first rehearsal of the year?

As we approach the first rehearsal of our 2010/2011 season, many of you will be lamenting the fact that you haven't sung in a choral setting for two to three months or more!
How will my voice hold up? Can I reach that high B? Do I still know how to read music?
Luckily, there are many ways that you can prepare (even in a few days or a few hours) for that first rehearsal.

I have been a member of Chorus America for a few years now and have enjoyed using some of the resources that they have for conductors, administrators and choir members. One of those resources is called Singer Network. Some of the information on the webpage is free to those who visit. There are other resources that are available to members. After taking a look, you may be interested in becoming a member yourself.

On Wednesday we will spend a lot of  time in vocal warm-up. We'll aim for vocal freedom and gradually tune the ears over the coming weeks through a series of warm-ups. Be prepared to read plenty of music! We'll work on the macro and the micro since our first short performance will be the next day!

I look forward to hearing you all!
Yours in song,
TIM
